Thanks for contacting us, and sorry for the inconvenience. Let’s hope this change is done soon so that we can engage in Viber communications again.Īn update: I have just received a reply from Viber

I’ve just sent Viber a feature request to ask them to update their mobile apps and infrastructure to accept 8 characters.

But the Android Viber app (and I suppose the apps for the other mobile platforms) does not yet accept 8 characters for mobile phones numbers in Mauritius. In principle, this should be straightforward. When a number changes (and adding 5 is a major change), the proper way to make Viber work again is to deactivate the account (More Settings > Deactivate Account) and activate a new account. The problem is that Viber uses the mobile phone number as the identifier of the person. Unfortunately, one thing has stopped working: Viber My wife has even succeeded in topping up my phone from her bank account. Some of you have done it manually and some have done that using one of the apps developed by Orange, Emtel, etc.

By now, I suppose all of you using smartphones have added 5 in front of all your mobile phone numbers.
